Slim Celebrates ‘LovesCrazy’ and signs Faith Evans
At his album listening party Wednesday at NYC’s Katra Lounge, Slim of 112 made the surprise announcement that Faith Evans would be the “future first lady” of his own M3 label through Asylum.
As T3 of Slum Village spun tracks from Slim’s LoveCrazy solo debut, I asked Greg Browning, Slim’s manager, for details.
“It’s not done yet, but it is going down,” Browning told Milk Magazine. “We’re working out the deal right now. It’s actually gonna be a joint venture.”
In Keep the Faith: A Memoir, Faith revealed that she often crashed in 112’s Manhattan apartment during the trying times of her marriage to Notorious B.I.G. She also appears on the LovesCrazy duet ”So Gone,” and Browning credits the singers’ close friendship for their new business arrangement.
“She had really gotten away from music and just wanted to be a mom. But Slim really just inspired her with what he’s doing with his own label, and she seen how he reinvented himself. She said, ‘If I do another record, that’s how I wanna do it,” he said.
Slim’s LovesCrazy hits stores on November 18. Representatives for Capitol Records, Faith’s current label, did not return calls for comment.
