The Lexicon: The Highly Average Male R&B Singer

KeAnthony, Noel Gourdin, & Sterling Simms

In The Lexicon, we look at trends and happenings in the world of music and assign nifty catchprases to them. First up, Highly Average.

Highly Average (adj.): extremely mediocre; common; possessing just enough talent to eke by.

In the world of R&B, I’m noticing that we have been inundated lately with the Highly Average male soloist. Take for example people like Noel Gourdin, KeAnthony, and Sterling Simms. I’m not saying the guys can’t sing, but they’re missing something special. For some reason, they don’t move me like Maxwell, have the hilarious antics of an R. Kelly, or get me on the dance floor like Chris Brown. They’re just…there.

Disagree? Tell me why these guys deserve space on your hard drive.

I can’t speak on the other guys, But Noel’s album is really nice. I love his voice.

But you have a point about R&B music not being the same. It might be that times are changing and unfortunately music as we once knew it is following suit.
