Fabolous & Ne-Yo Plan Joint Album
Fabolous dropped a bomb on a recent YouTube video: “We got a Best of Both Worlds with Ne-Yo comin…Uhhh!”
My sentiments exactly. “Make Me Better” was cool, but do we really need 15-20 of those? Although they haven’t started recording yet, Fab says that the project is definitely in the planning stages.
“Ne-Yo and I keep talking about it and I think we definitely have chemistry when it comes to making records, so I thought it was only right,” he told BET.com. “I wanted to do one in the past with Lil Mo but being on separate labels we could never get it together because of the politics. But since me and Ne-Yo reside on Def Jam, I think we can pull this one off.”
Jay and R. Kelly did it with some success, but no one of this era has come close to topping Marvin Gaye & Tammy Terrell or Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway. It seems that, like the ubiquitous clothing lines and film roles, these collabo albums are just another way for artists to expand their brand. It’s not really about the music.
I can think of far better artists I’d want to hear a whole album from:
1. Outkast & The Roots
2. Beyonce & Jay-Z
3. Cee-Lo & N.E.R.D.
