Mary Mary Break Down ‘The Sound’
Listen to two brand new songs from Mary Mary’s The Sound, including our personal favorite “God In Me.” Plus, find out why the sisters believe their latest album will have fans rethinking the boundaries of gospel music.
“The Sound is our greatest work to date. You definitely see and hear improvement. You hear the evolution of Mary Mary,” Tina told Milk Magazine. ”There’s no one song that’s indicative of what the next will be. You couldn’t listen to one and kinda figure out what direction we’re going or what the whole CD is gonna be like. It is inspirational. It’s motivational. It’s church-y, it’s relevant, it’s party-ish, it’s oh my gosh, it’s everything.”
“God In Me” (featuring Kierra “KeKe” Sheard)
It’s basically talking about how you looking at my life and you think I got it goin’ on. You look at how I dress, how I live, what I drive, and you think it’s all about me. But, it’s not. It’s the God in me. God blessed me. God’s given me what I have, so direct your attention that way.

“Get Up”
“Get Up” is sort of like that motivational anthem. We’ve got a [candidate running for] president that looks like no president we’ve ever seen. You know, just to see that day coming, know that it’s time for change. It’s time to get up and do something great and not just accepting the status quo. Not just accepting what already has been, let’s get up and do something great.
“Dirt”
That talks about we all need a little dirt to grow. You’ve got these beautiful flowers. Everybody likes roses! Roses come out of this squirmy, dirty, full of rocks and stick-filled, worm-filled dirt, but you get beautiful roses from that, so we all need it.
“Superfriend” (featuring David Banner)
This song is talkin’ about how we have these friends and associations, and we think that they got our back. They here now but then they gone. You can’t figure out where they went, but you can always count on God, ‘cause he’s a superfriend.

“Forgiven Me”
That’s talking about how, yes I’ve had crazy stuff that has happened in my past. Maybe it was my fault, maybe someone else pushed some craziness on me, but it was part of my life. I’ve forgiven myself, I’ve forgiven the past and I am moving forward.
