Jill Scott & Her Drummer Fiance Show Their Love
When Jill Scott first announced that she was engaged to her drummer during a summer performance at New York’s Carnegie Hall, fans instantly wanted to know more about her new boo.
Meet “Lil” John Roberts. The fellow Philly native is a 1991 graduate of Will Smith’s alma mater Overbrook High School, and the Philadelphia Daily News reports that he is also the grandson of Hall of Fame boxer Harold Johnson.
As a musician, Roberts has worked with a veritable who’s who of stars including Janet Jackson, George Duke, Raphael Saadiq, Monica, and Musiq Soulchild. And, going by his MySpace page, he is very smitten with his new love. The two even got their names tatted on their necks. Awww!
After her five year marriage to Lyzel Williams ended in divorce, Jill said that she was more than ready to take the plunge a second time.
“I’d get married because I want to share all of this with someone,” she told AOL’s Black Voices earlier this year. ”I just mean who I am and the blessings that I have, I want to share it. That’s why I would get married again.”
She also called John “exceptionally special” in a recent video interview with Sister 2 Sister magazine. “He can put up with me. When you’ve been wounded or you feel like you’ve been wounded or hurt, to get over that, somebody has to be so patient with you and call you on your stuff.”
