Plans For Tupac Biopic On Hold

Billboard reports that plans for a movie covering the life of Tupac Shakur have stalled because of a legal battle between the film’s production company, Morgan Creek, and the slain rapper’s estate.
Morgan Creek has sued Amaru Entertainment for backing out of a November agreement which signed over life rights to the rapper’s story. But Amaru, which is run by ‘Pac’s mother Afeni Shakur, claims that no such agreement ever existed and that they were actually in talks with several film companies about the project.
“They have scared away Paramount, Fox and others, and we are going to sue them and recover millions (in damages),” Skip Miller, Amaru’s attorney, said.
Ay yi yi! This is definitely getting ugly. But, honestly, I can’t blame Mama Afeni for holding out for the best possible deal. Tupac’s life was a complex one, and we do not need another shoddy or rushed hip-hop film. (Cough, Notorious)
