Talib Kweli & Hi-Tek Reunite

Talib Kweli & Hi-Tek

After almost 10 years apart working on solo projects, Talbi Kweli and Hi-Tek have finally started working on the long-awaited follow-up to their 2000 debut, Train of Thought.

The new album, simply titled Reflection Eternal, isn’t due until later in the year, but the duo got fans in NYC ready with a performance Tuesday at The Blue Note. I wasn’t able to go, so friend to Milk and fellow hip-hop head Derek Felton went to represent us instead. Here’s what he said about the show via text:

You could tell Talib and Hi-Tek were trying to get their chemistry back, since it’d been so long since they performed together. They seemed a bit uncomfortable in the beginning with the live band set-up and being in a traditional jazz venue with mostly seating. The crowd wanted to get loose but were a bit timid until a special appearance by Bun B brought everyone to life. Res also showed up and sounded great. Much better than I expected. Performed “The Blast,” “Good Mourning,” Love Speakeasy,” “Move Somethin,” and a bangin new joint called “Back Again.”

I’m so mad I missed my girl Res! That first album, and her new joint with Idle Warship, stays in rotation on the iPod. You can catch another performance from Reflection Eternal tonight at The Blue Note or Thursday, March 19 at SXSW in Austin.
