During our recent interview with hip-hop duo The Knux, the brothers spoke about everything from growing up in New Orleans to reaching out to the youth through community service. And when the subject turned to the recent controversy surrounding Rick Ross’ rumored past as a correctional officer and the “reality” of hip-hop, we found out that “The Boss” isn’t the only one who used to work for the law.

“I used to be a C.O. and I’m proud of it. And I had court cases and shit,” Krispy told Milk Magazine. (more…)

The Knux Work on New Music and Plan Tour with “A Legend”

Milk Magazine caught up with Dawn Richard of Danity Kane and Day 26 last night at a party thrown by Smart Water and GlobalGrind.com at New York’s Taj Lounge Wednesday.

On the red carpet, Dawn retained a pleasant disposition and laughed it up with Jaslene Gonzalez of “America’s Next Top Model.” Danity Kane may be in shambles, but the singer told us she is still hopeful about their future. (more…)

Raphael Saadiq Says D’Angelo’s Next Album Will Be “Super Dirty”

D'Angelo2008 is proving to be the year of the R&B comeback: Erykah Badu, Maxwell, Brandy, Labelle, and next up, D’angelo.

Since the singer’s last album Voodoo dropped in 2000, rumors have swirled about his excessive weight gain and alleged substance abuse. He’s also had several run-ins with the law, including an arrest for assault and disorderly conduct in ‘02 and another for drunk driving and drug possession in ‘05.

But Raphael Saadiq, his friend and frequent collaborator, says that the singer is now reinvigorated and ready to reclaim his spot in music. (more…)

Mary Mary Tackle Hard Times and Hip-Hop on ‘The Sound’

Mary MaryWith a heated election season under way, one issue continues to come up as a measure of both candidates’ character - faith. The sisters of Mary Mary called the  media’s treatment of Reverand Wright, Barack Obama’s pastor, especially ”unfair.”

Erica told Milk Magazine, “To a person who doesn’t know God, who doesn’t have a relationship with him, who hasn’t read the word, who isn’t on a quest to find out who he is, it’s easy for you to pick apart every little thing because you already are cynical about God in the first place. I think people should let people’s relationship be what it is and stop trying to analyze it.”

The duo says they’ve endured similar scrutiny because of their own musical choices. While their upcoming CD The Sound features a duet with fellow gospel artist Kierra “KeKe” Sheard, they also stepped into the hip-hop world by working with (more…)
